Third through Fifth Grade Teachers…
If you feel left out from our correlated TEKS chart, DON’T! We have searched several sites, books, files, and more to find a program that we felt was worthy of teaching and would also help facilitate learning while on the farm.

The National Corn Growers Association has put together pages and pages of lesson ideas and full lesson plans that go right along with our cornfield maze field trips. They have divided everything by subject within each unit including science, social studies, math, language arts, and more! There are nine units dealing with agriculture and corn targeted to all grade and learning levels.

After finding these great lessons in an entire unit to use for weeks or just a few days, we started correlating them with the TEKS for fourth grade (our middle ground here at the farm) in much the same way we did for our pumpkin TEKS lessons. We then decided that the range of grade levels as well as ability levels for our students might make the chart extremely long and not as worthy as the lower grade levels.

So we are leaving which lessons you choose up to you as well as which TEKS you want to correlate with for each grade level. (many are science or math related)
Again, we feel strongly that these are quality lessons on soil, corn plants, nutritional value, uses, integrated pest management and more. Please check out the web site to down load pdf files of individual lessons or entire units www.ncga.com. Be warned that some entire units are 24 pages or more and you will need Adobe Reader to read the files.

If you have any questions or want more suggestions, please email us at the farm. We would be glad to help you in any way. moore_farms @ yahoo.com.
